CDS Executive Committee
Update - December 2004
The seven members of the CDS Executive Committee meet once
a month to carry on the work of Dependable Strengths. On October
18, they convened for their annual "retreat" to
look at the progress of CDS and plan for the future.
Many significant things were accomplished by CDS during the
2003-2004 year. These include:
CDS Accomplishments
• 501(c)3 -- gaining
status as a 501(c)3 organization - a public, non-profit
charity
• ECRCDS -- forming
the East Coast Regional Center for Dependable Strengths
in Maryland with Anne Scholl-Fiedler as Director
• Luther Seminar Contract
-- finalizing a licensing contract with Luther Seminary
of St. Paul, Minnesota granting rights to use DS
• Web DS -- formalizing
a contract with the Washington Occupational Information
System (WOIS), to develop a version of DS to be available
on the internet.
• DS Journal - completing
an edition of the Career Planning and Adult Development
(CPAD) journal dedicated entirely to Bernard Haldane
• DS Rights - formally
obtaining the rights to Dependable Strengths intellectual
property from Jean Haldane
• DS Adaptations -
initiating or completing manuals for various adaptations
of the DSA process, including: DS
for Organizational Development, DS for College Students,
DS for Middle School Students, DS for Churches, with
further adaptations planned.
Goals for 2004-05
The CDS Executive Committee looked at how CDS wants to grow
in the future and established goals for the upcoming year.
Our seven primary goals for 2004-2005 are:
• CDS Advisory Board
-- form an Advisory Board to provide counsel and guidance
to the CDS organization. Members will include 5 community
members, 2 DSA practitioners and 2 members of the CDS Executive
committee.
• DS Conference --
offer a yearly Dependable Strengths conference for practitioners
beginning in 2005.
• Fundraising -- develop
plans for formal fundraising.
• Expand CDS Executive Committee
-- add Adjunct Members to our CDS Executive Committee to
expand our base of DS "movers"
• UW DS Project --
maintain and enhance the DS Project at the University of
Washington
• Data Collection
-- develop methods to collect follow-up data on the effectiveness
of Dependable Strengths Articulation Process (DSA).
• DS Adaptations --
further develop adaptations of DSA and promote their use
The Future
All these goals are very exciting for the Committee. These
are steps which will build on our intentions of increasing
our communication with and support of DSA practitioners, being
more research based, collaborating with like-minded organizations
and methodologies, and ever expanding the use of Dependable
Strengths for the benefit of individuals and the world at
large.
