EAST COAST DS SUMMER INSTITUTE A SUCCESS!

This past August 2004, the East Coast Center for Dependable Strengths and the Maryland Institute for Employment and Training Professionals (MIETP) partnered to offer the first DSA training for counselors on the East Coast in Columbia, Maryland. To kick off and support the efforts of the East Coast Center, Jean Haldane and Allen Bovin-Brown joined Anne Scholl-Fiedler to facilitate the training. Participants were energized by Jean and Allen’s presence, mentoring, and commitment to the work and were continually looking at ways to bring the process back to their organizations. Workforce development, social services, private practitioners and educational professionals made up the diversity of the group.

The success of the program is demonstrated through some of the comments from the workshop participants:

“Superb…absolutely wonderful. Empowering. Crystallizes life experiences. Worth the time, money and hard work. Life changing. Spiritually uplifting. Challenging, forces you to look outside of your comfort zone…worth the discomfort. Expands your feelings of self-worth. Empowers you to be more than you thought you were – to do more than you thought you could.”

“I gained confidence to depend on strengths I knew I had and identified new strengths. I received concrete technical skills for helping others identify their strengths. It has given me the ability to have a concrete direction on how to be beneficial to my organization.”

“I was empowered to make a conscience recommitment to the people I serve and the mission of the work.”

“I learned more about the gifts I have to bring to my work and my life, how to articulate them better, and how to instruct others in the DSA process.”

“I am excited and enlightened by the process! I can’t wait to share it!”

“I enjoyed this workshop more than any other I have participated in.”

“I am so impressed with this process and the facilitators that I feel overwhelmed by the power.”

As a result of this success, MIETP and the East Coast Center for Dependable Strengths are teaming up again for training during the week of February 14-18, 2005 at the Pearlstone Retreat Center in Reisterstown, MD.
