Update on DS activities in South Africa

Foundation in Johannesburg, South Africa, gives an overview
of 2003 activities.
2003 was a busy, successful year for DS in South Africa.
Here is a snapshot of what has
been happening:
- 17 DS courses were delivered. Of these, 11 were Job Magnet
courses with 142
participants;
1 Youth Course with 12-14 year olds; 3 facilitator courses with 15 participants;
and 2 self-esteem courses with 31 participants.
- South Africa now has 56 trained DS facilitators.
- The DS team continues to network with the Rotary. Rotary
sponsored a DS
course for Alexandra Technikon and there are now 8 facilitators from this course.
- Outreach with higher education institutions continues
to grow and strengthen. The DS
team is in touch with the University of the North. In addition, Rhodes University,
Grahamstowns sponsored a DS training and trained 3 Facilitators, whom they plan
to incorporate
into
their Human Resources Department.
- Materials to support the marketing and running of DS
courses in the corporate sector have
been developed. There are 5 facilitators who are now ready to run the
process in the corporate sector.
- The DS Foundation received accreditation by the Services
Seta. Jennifer Tallack,
Executive Director of the Foundation, has been accredited as an Assessor and
Moderator.
- Two new members joined the Board, bringing the member
total to 8. There are also
8 members on the Executive Committee. Meetings are held monthly."
Jennifer ended her report by adding, “It has been
a busy year and many new contacts have been
made. We hope to continue next year and run even more courses."
