Jennifer Tallack is the Executive Director of the Dependable
Strengths Foundation in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has
enjoyed a full career as an educator in primary and secondary schools.
English and History are her subjects. As Deputy Principal for a
girls’ high school, she served as head of the Guidance and
Counseling Department. She is a Master Trainer in Dependable Strengths.
On a visit to Johannesburg in 1998, Bernard
Haldane set in motion a kind of Job Magnet Process to offer the
Dependable Strengths vision to the people of South Africa. Bernard
began by contacting Joburg’s Anglican Bishop. He went on to
develop a network of contacts who would remember him and make referrals.
In 1999, a team of eight South Africans came to Seattle for Dependable
Strengths Facilitator Training. Jennifer Tallack was one of those
eight. In 2001, the Dependable Strengths Foundation was established
in Johannesburg, with Jennifer Tallack as Executive Director.
Today, there are 85 DS facilitators in South
Africa. Hundreds of South Africans have received Dependable Strengths
training. There are Dependable Strengths Operating Groups at two
South African universities, two secondary schools have agreed to
integrate DS into their curriculum, and a regular schedule of DS
courses is offered at a women’s community center.
In 2003, a survey of
job seekers who received DS training showed that 64% had found work
(in a country where the unemployment rate is at 40%). Ninety-eight
percent of those surveyed said the DS Process was having a positive
effect on their lives and had given them hope. Even among people
suffering from HIV/AIDS, the DS Process is proving to be an effective
catalyst for hope. Jennifer says, “There
are endless possibilities for growth. We have only begun to scratch
the surface.”
